Facets of an Impact Wrench

The impact wrench is one of the most powerful fastening tools available. Mechanics use them for tightening and loosening nuts and bolts with little physical effort. In the past, these wrenches have required an air supply, but that is no longer the case. Now there is a cordless impact wrench available that does not require the use of an air compressor. It is instead powered by a battery.

This is great news because most air-powered tools tend to be cumbersome to use. Now that air compressors are unnecessary, mechanics can freely move about a shop with a battery-powered tool. Battery-powered tools are convenient for professionals and lay men alike.

There are many different types of battery-powered impact wrenches on the market. The cordless version of the impact wrench may is pricier compared to the traditional wrench. However, remember that the latter requires the purchase of an air compressor as well. In the end, the cordless wrench is a better option for almost anyone who needs to screw and unscrew nuts and bolts.

Bricklaying Tools

Laying bricks for your home, chimney, wall, or any other part of your property can be an exciting venture. In doing your own bricklaying you will save a lot of money by not having to pay someone else for the labor. However, bricklaying is a serious undertaking, so you must have a solid plan and foresight to make your project turn out right. Masonry involves substantial material ... and it is very permanent!

First thing you want to do is make drawings of the project you envision. Get an estimate of your building costs and sift through any flaws that may hinder your project. Visit your local hardware store if you have any questions or need to collect samples of the material you would like to use. These samples will help you visualize how they blend with your current landscape.

Next order of business is to collect all of the proper masonry tools you will need to start and complete the job. Some of the key tools you will need are a mortar hawk, brick tongs, Mason's trowel, chisels, hammers, bristle brush, rubber mallet, circular saw, hammer drill with masonry bit, shovel, cement, mask, gloves, and eyewear. This is a pretty extensive list of tools so if you only want to complete a single project, you would do well to rent these tools. If you plan on masonry becoming a hobby or a career, then an investment in these tools would be to your benefit.

Tools for Measuring and Marking

Some of the most basic tools you will ever work with are those that measure and mark angles. However, it is key that your tools have a high degree of accuracy. The following are tools that are best used for these purposes:

  1. Rulers and tape measures are the most common measuring tools. Most range from 2 to 8 feet in length and have a lock to hold the tape at the desired length.
  2. Squares and miter squares are used to make angles and mark measurements. Miter squares mark 45 degree angles and "L" squares mark 90 degree angles.
  3. Marking knives, awls, and pencils are some of the most accurate marking tools as well as the least expensive. Compasses and dividers are also used to gauge, mark increments, and draw circles.

All of the aforementioned tools are a necessity to obtain precise measurements. They all have their own maintenance requirements that could be performed by you or your local hardware store representative.

What Tool Box Is Right for You?

Have you ever found yourself spending much of your time looking for the right tools for a project? Do you get frustrated when they seem to end up in different places and are hard to find? If this is the case then you are in desperate need of a tool box. The question is ... what kind?

Most tool boxes are made of either aluminum or plastic. Sizes vary quite a bit and depend on how big the tools are that you must store. If they are particularly heavy, you may want to purchase a tool box cart for easy transportation. Do you need to lock your tools in the box? If so shop around for those that either provide you with a lock and key. In some cases, you may have to get a separate lock and key.

If your tool box will get wet often, you may be interested in one that contains a rust resistant latch. This way you won't have problems opening it no matter what type of conditions it has been subject to. Some have removable trays and cups that allow you to carry only the tools necessary for a job rather than the entire box.

Tool boxes can be found at your local hardware store and online. Depending on the size, model, and features you desire, prices can range anywhere from $12 to $100. This investment will make a lot of sense once you finally get organized and do not have to waste precious time looking for your tools!
